Expanding our Native Cloud Protection with Commvault

We are excited to announce that Central Technology have added Native Cloud Protection to our data protection solution set, this addition allows us to provide the most comprehensive and secure immutable backup solutions for all organisations regardless of where their workloads reside.

Immutable Backups now available for Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platforms, Dynamics 365 and EntraID plus protection for Google Workplace, powered by Commvault

Organisations are still responsible for the protection of their data regardless of the platform on which it is hosted. Most cloud providers operate a shared responsibility model where the cloud provider ensures uptime of the service and the customer is responsible for keeping a backup copy of their data from which they could recover in the event of an incident such as security incident.

In recent times, we are seeing more organisations adopt hybrid or cloud-first strategies, meeting their obligations of the shared responsibility model requires solutions that are purpose-designed for protecting data stored in cloud platforms that traditional backup solutions can’t protect.

That’s why we can now offer Native Cloud Protection for workloads hosted on Azure, AWS and Google Cloud platforms as well as Dynamics 365, and EntraID. We have also added protection for Google Workspace to complement our existing protection for Microsoft 365.

Protecting workloads on these platforms requires API integration with the platforms to extract the data, as well as storage locations within the platform to avoid egress costs. To align with the 3-2-1-1 backup best practice rule, a copy should still be taken outside of the cloud platform – CT offer our own cloud storage to provide a cloud to cloud backup solution that will ensure alignment with best practice.

Our Commvault-powered solutions provide an immutable backup within the cloud platform hosted in a separate tenancy for segregation. An additional backup copy is then made to our own hosting platform to ensure protection against failures within the cloud provider.

Maintaining operational systems is essential for organisations, in addition to keeping a backup of data, the configuration of cloud platforms needs to be backed up so the configuration of a cloud platform can also be restored in the event of a recovery. For example, in Microsoft 365 the user accounts within EntraID would need to be in place and secured before data is restored. To access VMs within Azure, the vNet configuration would need to be correct (and also correct to ensure access to the VMs is secured).
