Patch Engineer:

As a Patch Engineer you will working within our TOC (Technology Operations Centre) which is a 24/7/365 function dedicated to the proactive real time monitoring, alerting and management.

This role will be responsible for managing and coordinating proactive patch/system updates to customers core monitoring applications and devices while ensuring issues are escalated appropriately.

You will be expected to ensure team SLAs and KPIs are achieved.

The Patch Engineer will carry out these works in a professional manner using technical knowledge and experience.  You shall be aware that, during the management of updates the customer may be experewicing a potential outage so a calm, consultative communications are always required.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Raising and responding to alerts, events and incidents and directing these to the relevant teams
  • Configuring relevant systems with respect to events and alerts
  • Identifying appropriate monitoring thresholds for alerts and events
  • Constructing and managing event management dashboards
  • Identifying circumstances in where alerts are required and configuring alerts to meet the requirements of event management service stakeholders
  • Raising and making available event records and reports on a monthly basis
  • Proactively monitor customer networks via our internal monitoring system, investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving issues
  • Provide proactive reasoning on why certain patches shouldn’t be installed
  • Investigate any failed patch/update deployments and put into place detailed processes to resolve these
  • Take the initiative to create and maintain documents and procedure
  • Monitoring automatic system-related alerts and actioning as needed in relation to security/patch management
  • Performing patch and security management tasks
  • Scheduling and managing application updates
  • The role will be part of a shift pattern which will consist of afternoons, nights
  • Record all works within CT’s ticketing system and always adhere to CT’s Quality System and the documented processes and procedures
  • Record all works completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Achieve company objectives and individual targets
  • Manage your own workload effectively
  • Maintain internal controls and procedures providing recommendations for improvements where applicable
  • Achieve operational and quality standards

This role involves, accurate, regular technical and time reporting. Working proactively on your own initiative and closely with the Team Leader and / or Service Desk Manager in a fast moving industry.

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential -

  • Minimum 4 year’s experience within the IT Industry and previous experience within an IT & Telecoms MSP
  • Formal IT Qualification(s)
  • IP Addressing and routing and networking devices
  • Microsoft Server and Client Operating Systems
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Working knowledge and demonstrate experience of security, patch and vulnerability management/deployment across multiple environments
  • Proven track record of working within a technical service desk environment

Desirable -

  • CCNA
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Strong working knowledge of virtualisation – preferably using VMware
