As cyber security expectations continue to grow across supply chains, more organisations are being asked to demonstrate recognised security standards as part of doing business. When a key customer requirement mandated Cyber Essentials certification, SRM partnered with Central Technology to achieve certification and protect future business opportunities.
SRM Achieves Cyber Essentials Certification to Meet Customer Requirements
SRM faced increasing supply chain and compliance pressures when a key customer requirement mandated Cyber Essentials certification.
Cyber Essentials is a UK Government-backed certification scheme designed to help organisations protect themselves against common cyber threats and demonstrate that fundamental security controls are in place.
Failure to achieve certification within the required timeframe risked impacting a significant commercial contract and could have restricted future opportunities with customers that require recognised cyber security standards from their suppliers.
“A key customer requirement meant we needed to achieve Cyber Essentials certification within a specific timeframe. Without certification, there was a risk to an important commercial contract and potential restrictions on future opportunities with customers.”
The Journey to Cyber Essentials
Central Technology (CT) worked with SRM to assess its existing security position, identify areas requiring improvement, and develop a structured remediation plan aligned with Cyber Essentials requirements.
This included reviewing security controls, addressing compliance gaps, implementing the necessary technical and policy changes, and providing guidance on both the technical requirements and the wider business implications of achieving recognised cyber security standards.
“Central Technology helped us assess our existing security position, identify areas requiring improvement, and develop a structured remediation plan aligned with Cyber Essentials requirements.”
Maintaining a High Cyber Security Standard
By successfully achieving Cyber Essentials certification, SRM was able to demonstrate its commitment to cyber security, satisfy customer requirements, and reduce the risk of losing important business opportunities.
The project not only enabled compliance with supply chain requirements but also strengthened the organisation’s overall security posture, providing a solid foundation for future customer and supplier engagements where cyber security assurance is expected.
To ensure compliance requirements are maintained throughout the certification lifecycle, SRM enrolled in the Compliance Maintenance Schedule, which aligns with Cyber Essentials requirements. This helps ensure that Cyber Essentials core requirements continue to be met, avoiding unnecessary remediation work and supporting a smooth and efficient renewal process.
Looking Ahead
Cyber security assurance is becoming an increasingly important factor in supplier relationships. By achieving Cyber Essentials certification and implementing an ongoing compliance approach, SRM is well positioned to meet customer expectations while maintaining a strong foundation for future growth.
