Enhancing the Disaster Recovery Plan for Public Service Provider

Case Study

Limiting downtime possibilities and risk of ransomware attacks

SES Water supply water to Sutton and the East Surrey region. As a public infrastructure provider, any downtime to their systems would have a widespread detrimental effect to the business and to customers. Therefore, enhancing their disaster recovery plan was essential.

Enhancing Disaster Recovery

SES Water aimed to strengthen their disaster recovery plan to address all potential points of failure in the event of a disaster or cyberattack.

CT’s Secure Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) was already in place, providing off-site replication to protect against on-site incidents and enabling seamless failover to a cloud-based platform.

However, for immutable backups, SES Water relied on CT Secure Cloud Backup for off-site immutable storage- without on-premises immutability controls. They sought to further enhance their disaster recovery plan by optimizing recovery timelines and improving security, reducing downtime risk and minimizing exposure to ransomware attacks.

On-Premises Backup & Recovery

After attending a co-hosted webinar with Object First on Out-of-the-box Immutability, SES Water undertook a demo of the device. CT then conducted a 30-day proof of concept (POC) for our On-Premises Immutability solution to ensure SES Water were satisfied with all aspects of the service.

Upon the success of the POC, we deployed the Ootbi device and successfully fulfilled all key deliverables within the project timeframe. The device provided SES Water with:

  • The ability to restore critical VM’s on-site, enhancing their original DR plan.
  • Robust data protection on-site with immutable storage straight from the box.
  • The ability to scale their on-premises immutability, adding additional devices at any time and taking only 15-minutes to deploy and scale.
