Building Resilience in a Digital Age. Insights from VeeamON 2025 from Matt Atkinson, Head of Divisional Sales (Cloud).
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend VeeamON 2025 in San Diego, Veeam’s flagship annual event where its global community of customers, partners, vendors, and technology influencers come together to explore the future of data protection.
As one of Veeam’s largest partners in EMEA, CT’s presence was more than just a formality. It was an essential step in ensuring we remain aligned with Veeam’s roadmap, vision, and innovations so we can continue to enhance our own offerings and stay ahead in an continuously advancing landscape. The event brought together a wide range of industry stakeholders to discuss the latest product developments and strategic direction. For us, this was an invaluable opportunity to fine-tune our solutions in line with Veeam’s capabilities and strengthen the strong solutions we’ve built across their ecosystem.
A key theme across the event was Data Resiliency and the shift from traditional backup strategies to comprehensive, cyber-resilient frameworks. With cyber-attacks, especially ransomware, continuing to grow in scale and impact, it’s clear that data protection is now a board level priority. Veeam also demonstrated how AI is being meaningfully integrated into its platform, enhancing malware detection, intelligent data classification, and automating recovery processes. AI isn’t just a buzzword, it’s becoming a practical tool in building smarter, more responsive data protection.
The rise of cloud-native and SaaS solutions was another hot topic especially the ongoing misunderstanding of the shared responsibility model. Many organisations still mistakenly assume their cloud provider takes care of backup and recovery, when in fact the responsibility lies with the business itself. With hybrid and multi-cloud environments growing more complex, the demand for unified backup management is intensifying. Veeam’s response, including its ONE UI, offers streamlined visibility and control—something our customers increasingly ask for.
Data Resilience Maturity and the Bigger Picture
A standout moment was the launch of the Data Resilience Maturity Model (DRMM) a strategic framework to help organisations assess and improve their data resilience posture. The DRMM defines key elements such as executive ownership, test plans, automation, and metrics to build a stronger, more accountable data protection culture.
In the wake of high-profile incidents like the M&S cyber-attack over Easter, it was a timely reminder that no organisation is immune, and that resilience is no longer optional, it’s essential. Ransomware remains the most pressing concern, and Veeam’s research highlighted a concerning gap between perceived and actual readiness. Key safeguards, immutable backups, clean-room environments, and pre-defined incident playbooks were emphasised repeatedly, yet many businesses still lack a coherent response plan.
The call for simplification was another consistent theme. As businesses juggle multiple environments and compliance demands, the ability to consolidate backup and monitoring into a single interface is more than a convenience, it’s a necessity.
Final Reflections…
Attending VeeamON 2025 reinforced the message that data resilience is a business imperative. Organisations that invest in strategic, intelligent, and automated frameworks will be better positioned to navigate today’s risks and tomorrow’s opportunities.
At CT, we are proud to stand at the forefront of this movement, working closely with Veeam to ensure our clients have the tools and insights needed to stay protected and resilient. Our commitment to security, innovation, and partnership remains strong and VeeamON has only strengthened that resolve.
We’re looking forward to attending the next VeeamON Tour event in London on 5th June, a key gathering for the data recovery and protection community to share insights, explore innovation, and build valuable connections. For CT, it’s an opportunity to gain fresh perspectives from existing Veeam customers, further strengthen our service offering and connect with peers and partners across the industry.
If you’re attending and would like to discuss how CT can support your business with resilient, future-ready data solutions, feel free to message me directly. I’d be happy to connect.
